Louisiana Hunters can wear Blaze Pink as of August 1, 2016

pink camoWe have heard mixed reactions here at Spillway Sportsman about the hot topic of hot pink. But HB179 is a law now and here to stay. On May 6, 2016 the Governor signed HB179 into law with an effective date of August 1, 2016.

Hunter Orange, Blaze Pink, and the Law

HB179 basically adds blaze pink as an optional alternative to blaze orange. So, you can wear orange, or you can wear pink.

The existing law requires anyone hunting wildlife in Louisiana during gun season to display 400 square inches or more of hunter orange or wear a hunter orange hat as an alternative.

Pink the new orange?

Statistically… Hunter orange has indeed reduced the number of accidents and injuries. And, studies do show that pink is easier to see than orange. That said, we do expect hunter orange to remain the most popular choice by Louisiana hunters.
