Official 2016 – 2017 Louisiana Hunting Regulations Pamphlet Released June 2016

2016-2017-regsThe Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries (LDWF) has released its 2016-17 hunting regulations pamphlet online.

It is out early this year, in June 2016.

People who want the paper / printed version will have to wait until August.

As usual, the hunting regulations pamphlet contains licensing information, general hunting information, deer hunting areas & regulations, game birds, turkey, WMA regulations and schedules, Federal land schedules, a table of future sunrise/sunsets, and more.


Major Changes for 2016-2017 Hunting

Quoted from the PDF on the LDFW’s website, these are some of the major changes which changed from the previous year’s hunting season:
1. Addition of migratory bird zones, seasons, and regulations to the annual hunting regulations pamphlet
2. Incorporation of former Deer Area 5 into Deer Area 1 and the creation of a new Deer Area 5 within the levee protection system of the Atchafalaya Basin.
3. Implementation of mandatory hunter check-in for either-sex firearms deer hunts on
several WMAs, including Bayou Macon, Boeuf, Big Lake, Buckhorn, Dewey W. Wills,
Grassy Lake, Pomme de Terre, Richard K. Yancey, Russell Sage, and Sherburne.
4. Modification of allowable weapons to be carried for protection purposes on WMAs.
5. Expansion on allowance for personal water craft on WMAs.
6. Elimination of February hog dog season on Boeuf, Richard K. Yancey, and a portion of Dewey W. Wills WMAs.
7. Creation of a Limited Access Area on Dewey W. Wills WMA.
8. Elimination of a Limited Access Area on Salvador/Timken WMA.
9. Implementation of a benchmark water level closure for deer seasons on Maurepas
Swamp WMA.
10. Prohibition on the operation of mud boats and air cooled propulsion engines after
2:00 p.m. from September through January on portions of Pass-a-Loutre WMA.
11. Change of youth turkey lottery hunts on Bodcau WMA to open youth turkey hunts.
